KILLING BEAUTY

Concept: “With the advent of plastic surgery for cosmetic purposes it is now possible to become Barbie dolls. Mass-media images are presented to us in such an unrealistic, exaggerated way that reflects where the beauty industry is headed.”

Creative journey: “It was very important that the make-up looked over-the-top but professional at the same time. We found it difficult to get the same team for more than one shoot, so each time we had to re-explain our concept, never really developing it further. This proved useful as it kept our images simple and strong.”

Learning curve: “We’ve learnt so much - the importance of communicating well with your model and make-up artist. They have to understand down to the smallest detail what it is you want from them.”

Magazine targeted: Sleazenation: “We wanted our images to be strong enough to make people think about beauty and the direction it’s headed, but do it in a humorous way.”
